Zoopsia

Typically visual hallucinations consisting in perceiving animals, which in most cases are considered as dangerous or frightening (spiders, snakes, etc ...). This symptom is commonly found in drug addictions, especially during withdrawal syndrom from chronic alcoholics.

The visions are frightening enough to require adequate care, higher risks of death by defenestration or states of panic can be observed during such hallucinations. This symptom also is common in delirium tremens.

Must be distinguished from Zoopathy / Zoanthropy
